Exit slip 1 (2025.9.4)

The video’s core message is that good teaching starts by learning from students and intentionally seeing through their eyes. For foreign teachers especially, that means treating cultural difference not as a hurdle but as essential context—taking time to understand local norms, communication styles, and what “respect” or “participation” looks like in that setting. The first step is helping students open up: build trust, invite their stories, ask open-ended questions, and listen without rushing to correct. As students feel safe to share who they are and where they come from, teachers gain the perspective needed to adapt examples, expectations, and feedback so learning is truly relevant. Basically, when students’ voices are heard, instruction becomes culturally responsive, relationships deepen, and real understanding follows.
